Short Breaks
We offer weekend or midweek breaks: weekends start on a Friday or Saturday, midweeks start on a Monday or Tuesday, all starting from 13.00.
WEEKEND BREAKSW
WEEKEND BREAK EAST: Cruise as far as Froxfield through entirely rural scenery via Crofton and the Bedwyns, giving time to visit the Crofton Beam Engines. A prompt getaway on your first day should see you having descended the Crofton locks, perhaps mooring there and taking a walk alongside Wilton Water to the nearby village of the same name - which is home to the lovely Swan Inn. Your first full day is flexible. You could chose to stay at Crofton in the morning to visit the world-famous beam engines if they’re open and thus cruise as far as Bedwyn for the evening - which has a pub and village shop - ready to turn for the return journey on the second full day. Alternatively you could continue east as far as Froxfield for lunch at the nearby Pelican Inn and perhaps a stroll down to nearby Hungerford for the afternoon/evening (too many locks to boat there and back in a weekend). Turning at Froxfield, your second full day sees you returning to the top of the Crofton locks for mid afternoon with the opportunity to savour the remote summit pound of the canal, perhaps walking to/ through the nearby Savernake Forest or visiting the famous Wolf Hall of Hilary Mantel novels-fame, thus ready to return to our base for 9am on your last morning. If you’d prefer to return the boat on the last full day to our base and/or stay aboard for your last evening, this would give you the opportunity to take a car/ taxi to nearby Marlborough with its wealth of pubs & restaurants - you’d be very welcome!
WEEKEND BREAK WEST Head down the Wootton Rivers locks to the serene Long Pound past several Wiltshire White Horses towards the handsome market town of Devizes, perhaps reaching All Cannings for your first evening . You would have time to reach Devizes for lunch on Saturday before returning the Pewsey area for your second evening. The final full day would get you to Wootton Rivers for mid-morning, to the top of the locks for lunchtime, and would allow you to savour the remote summit pound of the canal, cruising through the Savernake Forest and Bruce Tunnel if you wished to moor for your last evening above the Crofton lock flight ready for your return to our base for 9am on your last morning. If you’d prefer to return the boat on the last full day to our base and/or stay aboard for your last evening, this would give you the opportunity to take a car/ taxi to nearby Marlborough with its wealth of pubs & restaurants.
