We are based at Burbage Wharf - on the summit of the Kennet & Avon Canal: perfectly positioned to offer holidays in both directions along the stunning K&A Canal. Our private, and very historic, wharf allows you to pull up alongside your boat, unload, and then securely park your car ready for your return. Then you just need to choose which direction you would like to travel and decide the duration of your holiday.

How far can we go during our canal boat holiday?

If you go West, you'll be able to embark on a trip towards Bath, which includes highlights such as the Saxon town of Bradford-on-Avon and two spectacular aqueducts. On a Short Break you’ll travel the beautiful Vale of Pewsey to reach the thriving market town of Devizes and be able to stroll from there to admire the famous Caen Hill Locks. If you wish to descend, 1 week allows time to reach historic Bradford on Avon - one of the prettiest Wiltshire towns, with a chance to catch a train for the short journey to Bath. A 10 day or 2 week trip would allow time to cross the famous Avoncliff & Dundas Aqueducts to reach Bath, with time for sightseeing and shopping. And of course there are several lovely canalside willages and pubs to explore….

Heading East offers sublime scenery, history and sightseeing, interspersed with a gentle succession of locks taking you down along the Kennet Valley. On a Short Break you’ll cruise through the Bruce Tunnel, past Crofton Steam Pumps and Wilton Water, as far as Hungerford. A week allows for a longer journey to Newbury where we recommend you turn. Beyond Newbury the Kennet Navigation (River Kennet) is a journey only for more experienced hirers as far as Aldermaston and beyond.

However our recommendation for the best week’s holiday is to go both ways! Start by heading east to Hungerford, retrace your footsteps and then explore the magnificent Long Pound through the Vale of Pewsey to Devizes before returning…..simply superb!
